Chelsea evening headlines as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Man Utd warning amid Thiago Silva blow

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Friday, February 26.

Solskjaer sends warning

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent a warning to Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea ahead of Sunday's clash.

“Thomas has done really well as it’s never easy coming into a season half way through. But hopefully we can stop that run, that’s my job now,” said Solskjaer in his pre-match press conference.

“We know he has come in and it’s changed a little bit at Chelsea and it’s going to be a great challenge for us.

“But we have improved even though we’re still nowhere near where we want to be – higher up the table and winning trophies.”

Silva ruled out

Thiago Silva will not make his comeback from injury against Manchester United on Sunday, Chelsea head coach Tuchel has confirmed.

The Brazilian defender has been ruled out since suffering a thigh injury in the win over Tottenham Hotspur on February 4.

Silva did return to first-team training last week but wasn't deemed ready to feature in the 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday nor the Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

And ahead of the Blues' Premier League clash with United at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel confirmed the 36-year-old wasn't yet ready to be brought back into the side.

"We have no new injury concerns Thiago can't play on Sunday," the German said.

Liverpool suffer injury blow

Liverpool have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea next week.

Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp are set to face off on Thursday in what could be a key battle for the top four with last season's champions having fallen to sixth following a recent blip.

Klopp's men are now sixth in the Premier League, one place and three points behind Chelsea, though that gap could be smaller by the time the two clubs face off next week.

Chelsea are up against Manchester United this weekend in what might just be the biggest test of Tuchel's reign yet, while Liverpool face bottom club Sheffield United.

Whatever happens this weekend, next Thursday's battle between two German bosses in Klopp and Tuchel should be a fascinating one, and it's a game that could well go on to define the race for a top four spot.

But ahead of the game, Liverpool have suffered a major injury blow with captain Jordan Henderson ruled out until April with a groin injury.

A Reds club statement read: "No specific timescale is being placed upon his return.

"However, the 30-year-old is ruled out initially until after the March international break."
