Chelsea evening headlines as Man Utd star sent Blues transfer message and Cech's Bonetti tribute

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Sunday, April 12.

Man United star sent surprise Chelsea transfer message

Odion Ighalo may be at Manchester United at the moment, but he has been told that a move to Chelsea could be a good one for him.

Ighalo is on loan with the Red Devils having signed on deadline day in January, but former Nigeria international Abdul Sule has said that he can see the former Watford man moving to Chelsea during the summer window.

"I see Odion Ighalo earning a big-money move from top European teams when his loan expires at Manchester United," he told Goal .

Chelsea behind the scenes on Jadon Sancho, Stamford Bridge development and transfer plans

"I don't think Man United are keen on retaining him because they seem not to value him enough to put hand him a regular place. He also may not be wanted again when Marcus Rashford is fit.

"I will not advise him to return to China now despite the attractive offer but would urge him to stay in Europe. I won't be surprised if Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid or Barcelona come for him.

"He has proven that he's got a lot to offer at the highest level within his short stay at Man United and he can attract big brands and earn more money, playing in any of the top teams in England."

Petr Cech pays tribute to Blues legend Peter Bonetti

Tributes have been pouring in for Chelsea legend Peter Bonetti, who has passed away at the age of 78 after suffering from long-term illness.

The former goalkeeper - nicknamed "The Cat", made an astonishing 729 appearances for the club across two spells from 1960 to 1979.

He has been described by fans as a 'True Blue', while Chelsea's technical and performance advisor Petr Cech, who is the only goalkeeper to keep more clean sheets for the Blues than Bonetti, has also paid tribute to one of the club's all-time greats.

"It’s really sad news for everybody involved in Chelsea Football Club," said Cech in a tribute on the club's website.

"‘We send our condolences to his family and all the people who knew him. Peter was an absolute legend for the club on and off the pitch and that’s how he’ll be remembered."

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has taken to Twitter to described Bonetti as a true legend of the club.

Latest Premier League return plan

Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League clubs have not played since the second week of March, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Professional football in England is currently suspended indefinitely as the number of cases and deaths from coronavirus in the UK continue to rise.

But reports have emerged in the national media, including the Daily Mail, that the Premier League could be set to return as a “TV event” in June or July.

A source from the Times has been in contact with key figures in the Premier League and the reports suggest that when the season does resume, it could be a mega TV event that could have multiple games on a day, which could also be played behind closed doors at Wembley.
