Chelsea evening headlines as major Kai Havertz update given, Conor Gallagher set for loan

Good evening, Chelsea fans. Here are your evening headlines for Monday, August 31.

Blues given major boost in Havertz chase

Chelsea have been given further encouragement as they look to complete the signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

The Blues have been repeatedly linked with a move for the Germany international this summer, and look to be edging closer to a £89.5 million deal.

And comments made today by Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz all but confirm Havertz will soon be leaving the club for Stamford Bridge.

“Unfortunately, our squad has not yet been determined,” he said. “I no longer expect that Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz will train with us again.

“It is possible that other players will also switch. We definitely have to bring players in too.”

Gallagher set to join Palace on loan

Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher is close to completing a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Football.london understands the 20-year-old, who featured in the pre-season draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, completed a medical with the Eagles on Sunday.

Gallagher, who caught the eye during loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City last term, was a target for several clubs but now looks set to move to nearby Selhurst Park.

An option to buy will not be included in the deal, with the Blues hopeful of involving the midfielder in the first team when he has gained valuable top-flight experience.

Mourinho praises Lampard's professionalism

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed the professional nature of Frank Lampard during Amazon’s recently released documentary 'All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur'.

The series, which follows Mourinho after his appointment as Spurs boss, includes conversations between the coach and his players.

And in one exchange with former Tottenham creator Christian Eriksen, the Portuguese coach speaks highly of Lampard’s attitude as a player.

While watching a Lampard press conference, Eriksen asks: “Good guy?”

Mourinho responds: “Frank? Yeah. Professional as a player. The best I’ve ever seen.”

That dedication to the job certainly appears to have carried over into Lampard’s managerial career, and he clinched back-to-back wins over his former boss during last season's Premier League campaign.
