Chelsea evening headlines as Loftus-Cheek makes trophy prediction and Kante return unclear

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Thursday, May 21.

No timescale on Kante training return

Chelsea will put no pressure on N’Golo Kante to return to training after the midfielder expressed concerns over the current coronavirus pandemic.

Premier League players have returned to their clubs this week but are required to train in small groups and observe social distancing rules as agreed with the government.

According to ESPN, Kante, 29, is worried about the impact of the virus and doesn’t feel safe coming back to train.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that black men and women in England and Wales are almost twice as likely than white people to die after contracting coronavirus.

Following the first round of testing among top flight clubs, six of 748 tests came back positive, with three at Watford.

Blues midfielder backs Lampard for title push

Ruben Loftus-Cheek believes Chelsea will challenge for the Premier League crown under the management of Frank Lampard.

Blues Legend Lampard was appointed last summer and despite having to contend with a transfer ban, has taken the team to fourth place in the table so far this season after giving opportunities to a number of academy players.

Loftus-Cheek, who has missed the campaign with injury, has been impressed with what he has seen from the new boss and thinks they can go from strength to strength.

“We’ve done really well to be where we are at the moment," he told the Club’s official site.

“If we can improve on what we’ve talked about as a collective then we could really be a team that’s in contention for titles in the future.”

Chelsea to step up Chilwell chase after PSG eye backup

Chelsea’s pursuit of Ben Chilwell has taken another twist, with the Blues set to miss out on another left back target.

With the Foxes reportedly demanding £80 million for the England International, Porto’s Alex Telles would have been a cheaper alternative at around half the price due to his contract expiring in 2021.

But the player could be heading elsewhere according to Le 10 Sport via The Leicester Mercury.

French Champions Paris Saint Germain have reportedly opened talks with Telles, meaning if Chelsea are to upgrade their defence, the pressure is now on to complete a deal for the Leicester man.
