Chelsea evening headlines as Liverpool enter Declan Rice race and defender completes transfer

Here are your Chelsea headlines for Friday, January 22.

Tomori's departure confirmed

Fikayo Tomori has completed his loan move to AC Milan on a six-month deal that will take him to the end of the season.

The Chelsea defender arrived in the Italian city on Friday afternoon to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on his move, which is believed to include a £25million option to buy at the end of it.

Three of the defender's four games this season have come in cup competitions and although he has potential, the England international hasn't been close to breaking into the first team on a regular basis.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had Tomori on-loan at Derby County and established the defender as a Premier League regular when the former midfielder took over at Stamford Bridge in 2019.

But this season it has been a bit different as Tomori has fallen right down the pecking order after the arrival of Thiago Silva on a free transfer from Paris St Germain.

Chelsea suffer Rice blow

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Chelsea target Declan Rice.

According to The Guardian, Rice has emerged as a transfer target for the Premier League champions ahead of the summer.

Chelsea have been eyeing Rice for some time and were strongly tipped to make a move last summer, but they wound up prioritising other targets as they racked up a £200million spending total.

The Blues are expected to go back in during the next transfer window, but Liverpool's interest could well complicate things.

Lampard reacts to speculation

Frank Lampard has played down pressure over his job, saying he is not paying attention following a difficult run of form, already aware of the current situation.

The Chelsea boss is under increasing pressure following five defeats in his last eight Premier League games and the Blues losing touch with the top four with some suggestions Roman Abramovich has already begun assessing possible replacements.

"I don't listen to it," he said in his press conference today when asked about the speculation.

"It's only everywhere if you want to scroll through social media or something, but I don't do that.

"I'm not stupid, I know the pressures that come with managing a top football club, but I just do my job, it doesn't matter to me."
