Chelsea evening headlines as Lampard provides Kante injury update and exciting Havertz agreement

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for July 6.

Lampard confirms Kante injury

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that N’Golo Kante will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League encounters with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

The Frenchman has been plagued by injuries during Lampard’s maiden season as Chelsea manager, and after playing a key role in Chelsea’s good form following the restart, pulled up against Watford on Saturday.

"Kante won't be in the squad," Lampard said. "Hurt his hamstring. A low-level hamstring, so we're hoping it is a week or so.

"We'll play that one as it goes but I would expect we'd be very lucky to have him [Kante] for Sheffield United."

Marco Reus and Maurizio Sarri in agreement over Havertz

Football.London understands that Chelsea are actively pursuing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, having already secured the signatures of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Havertz has turned heads all over Europe with a series of stellar performances in the Budesliga, and two big names in the game have been full of praise for the midfielder, including Chelsea’s former boss.

"He is a player who combines excellent physical qualities with great technical skills," Maurizio Sarri, as quoted by Serie A analysis, said back in November last year.

"At the moment they are using him mainly as an attacking-midfielder behind the central forward or as a winger. I think he is a complete player that could also play as a midfielder.”

Speaking in September last year, Marco Reus also lavished Havertz with special praise. The boy has enormous potential. You can see that easily," Reus, as quoted by Goal, admitted.

"He is a sensational player, who you want to have in your team, of course.”

Chelsea legend explains why Werner was right to choose Blues

Chelsea signed Timo Werner earlier this summer for a bargain £47.4m from RB Leipzig, fighting off the likes of Liverpool for his signature.

And Michael Ballack insists his countryman made the right choice when choosing the Blues over the Reds.

Ballack told i: “If Liverpool was really an option for him, he made the best decision for him, and only he can make that decision. You have to value certain things, like how much playing time you will get and how important a role in the squad you will have.

"Liverpool have won the Champions League and Premier League.

“How could Timo expect to come into that front three and start every week in place of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane?

“Chelsea are building a young team, a new team, with a young coach. It is a great project to be part of, given how young Timo is."
