Lampard told Solskjaer draw was likely
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted to his Manchester United counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during yesterday's Premier League clash that he expected the game to finish as a draw.
The two clubs played out a drab 0-0 stalemate at Old Trafford, and Lampard, according to Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves, was seen on the touchline telling the Reds boss, “it looks likely nobody is winning this”.
And asked about the comment after the game, Lampard admitted: “I said that! It wasn't a classic, was it? If I was at half five waiting for Man United against Chelsea, as a neutral for sure, you want more.
“But I think at the start of this season I've been watching games, I watched the lunchtime game today (Man City's 1-1 draw at West Ham), tough games.
“People are trying to find things and we're the same, we have to be humble to that and say we need to work and get better.”
Lampard admits VAR frustration
Lampard has urged officials to “take time” with VAR after Chelsea had a penalty decision turned down in Saturday’s draw against Manchester United.
Harry Maguire grabbed hold of Cesar Azpilicueta in the box from a free-kick, but the referee saw fit to play on. And Lampard has suggested the pitchside monitor should be used more frequently to reach the correct decision.
“It was a clear penalty,” the Chelsea boss said. “Clear penalty. I didn't see it from where I was standing at the time and I know it's a hard call for the referee on the pitch but that's why we brought VAR into the game.
“VAR was very quick to dismiss it in my opinion. It should take time, the referee should watch the monitor. If he watches the monitor he has to give a penalty. It's very confusing in my opinion.”
Kante praises Mendy’s performance
N’Golo Kante has heaped praise on new teammate Edouard Mendy after the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against Manchester United.
Mendy, signed from Rennes in the summer, made a superb save late on to deny Marcus Rashford.
And Kante was clearly impressed by the 28-year-old, who has already established himself as Frank Lampard’s No.1.
“He made some decisive saves. He helped us keep the clean sheet,” the French midfielder said. "It’s good for him, for his confidence, and good for the team.
“I hope he can keep going in this way and continue not conceding any goals.”
