Chelsea evening headlines as Lampard faces Havertz dilemma, possible new signings

Here are the Chelsea evening headlines for Tuesday, October 27.

Chelsea need to solve midfield issue to get best out of new signings

Chelsea must find a midfield duo capable of more penetrative passing if they are to get the best out of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

Frank Lampard appears to have addressed the concerning defensive issues that had plagued his side, with clean sheets against Manchester United and Sevilla.

Against the former, though, Chelsea lacked their usual rhythm in attack, with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho unable to cut through the lines and feed their more advanced teammates.

If Lampard wants to find a balance, he might look to change up the midfield two, as football.london explored here.

Five players who could save Chelsea millions in transfer market

Chelsea invested significantly in the transfer market this summer, spending big on players like Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell.

It would be understandable if the club are reluctant to throw as much money at new players come the end of this season.

With that in mind, Chelsea might turn to players whose contracts are running down, those that might be available on a free or for a cut price.

We took a look at five of them here.

Lampard tipped to recall three players

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has suggested Frank Lampard should bring three players back into his starting XI for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Krasnodar.

The Blues have drawn their last two games 0-0, including their opening group fixture against Sevilla last week.

They travel to Russia next, and Nevin has named three players who could return to Frank Lampard’s starting XI.

“The starting XI for this one will take a great deal of thought from Frank,” Nevin said - quoted by the Metro.

“Having drawn with Sevilla, three points would be very handy here, but he has to be careful not to push players too far this early in the season.

“I am sure he will want as many youthful, energetic and tireless legs on the field as possible, so I will not be surprised if the young guns such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount are used from the start.

“Then of course there are the likes of Mateo Kovacic, who could really do with another 90 minutes pretty soon. He should also have plenty of energy to spare. "
