Chelsea evening headlines as Kai Havertz targets trophies, latest Champions League injury update

Here are the Chelsea evening headlines for Tuesday, November 3.

Havertz targeting trophies after settling in at Chelsea

Kai Havertz says he is hoping to help Chelsea land major pieces of silverware after settling into life at Stamford Bridge.

Havertz, 21, has caught the eye in recent weeks after a slow start following his £72million summer move from Bayer Leverkusen.

And now that he has adapted to the Premier League, the Germany international is determined to taste success with Frank Lampard’s talent-rich side.

“The first target, always, is to have success and the main thing is to be healthy and have fun playing football,” he told the club’s match programme ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Rennes.

“Then, of course, you have to win titles and we have big players here, a good coach, so our goal is to win titles – that’s the reason why we are all here, and hopefully we can do that. You are always happiest on the pitch when you win, when you score goals and you make assists.

“The worst feeling in football is to lose games and play bad – after that you have, like, three days in which you only think about the game before. So the best thing is to make sure you win games, score goals and have fun. That has always been the most important thing for me.”

Injury news ahead of Rennes

Lampard is hoping to build on wins over Krasnodar and Burnley when Chelsea host Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But the Blues boss could be without goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the visit of the Ligue 1 side.

Kepa, who has lost his place to summer signing Edouard Mendy, was left out of the squad for the Burnley game due to a shoulder injury.

Billy Gilmour remains sidelined following his knee surgery.

After four points from their first two games, a win over Rennes would significantly boost Chelsea’s hopes of reaching the knockout rounds.

Ahmedhodzic flattered by Chelsea links

Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic says it is ‘fun’ that top clubs have been linked with his signature.

The 21-year-old was last week linked with a move to Chelsea by Swedish outlet Expressen with the Blues reportedly willing to pay over £7million for his services.

But Ahmedhodzic insists he remains focused on furthering his progress at Malmo despite swirling speculation over his future.

“If it affects me, it has affected me positively. I do not walk around thinking that ‘oh, they or they are hungry for me’” he told Aftonbladet via Sport Witness.

“I think it’s fun that such good clubs are interested, but my focus now is just to take home the gold. Daniel [Andersson, Malmo’s sporting director] has to solve it.”

“I have told Mackan [his agent Markus Rosenborg] that he can take care of everything,” he said when asked about Chelsea. “I do not want to hear anything.”
