Chelsea evening headlines as Giroud is sent strong warning and Rudiger eyed for January transfer

Good evening, Chelsea fans. Here are your evening headlines for Monday, November 16.

Giroud warned over lack of playing time amid exit rumours

France manager Didier Deschamps has warned Olivier Giroud he needs to be playing more regularly if he hopes to keep his place in the national team setup.

The 34-year-old striker has been on the fringes at Chelsea this season following the summer arrival of Timo Werner.

And Giroud has been linked with a January move as he looks to keep his hopes of a place in France’s squad alive ahead of next summer’s Euros.

Chelsea injury list ahead of Newcastle clash

“I make the choices that seem best to me for the France team,” said Deschamps following a Nations League win over Portugal, quoted by the Metro.

“With Anthony [Martial] who is a good player, it allows us to have a little more depth. Compared to Olivier, he has to be impacted. First of all with the situation he has at [Chelsea], knowing that he has a large frame and that he needs rhythm, it’s hard.

“That’s not why I want to lose him [because] it’s complicated and we’ll talk. But obviously he has every interest in it not lasting, for him, to remain competitive, but we must not forget what he did with us and what he is still able to do.

“Anthony has a different profile but one that gives options. Anthony, today, is more fulfilled and in better physical and psychological conditions, obviously."

Chelsea open to Rudiger transfer following Barcelona interest

Chelsea are willing to negotiate the sale of Antonio Rudiger amid interest from Barcelona, according to the Daily Star.

The defender has been identified as one of several potential targets as the Catalan club look to bolster their options at the back.

And Chelsea are believed to be keen to sell in the January transfer window. Rudiger has been a bit-part player so far this season following the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

Alonso recall looks unlikely after previous Lampard decision

Marcos Alonso seems unlikely to return to the Chelsea starting XI following an injury to Ben Chilwell.

The latter picked up a knock while playing in England’s Nations League defeat against Belgium on Sunday.

And Lampard has several options at his disposal if Chilwell is unavailable for this weekend’s clash against Newcastle United.

But Alonso could be at the back of the list of potential starters, having been hauled off at half-time in his last outing, with Chelsea 3-0 down at West Bromwich Albion.
