Chelsea evening headlines as forgotten man linked with surprise switch amid Loftus-Cheek update

Here are the Chelsea evening headlines for Wednesday, September 30.

Chelsea’s Ross Barkley joins Aston Villa on a season-long loan

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has joined Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the season as Frank Lampard continues to trim his squad.

The former Everton midfielder’s departure is seen as somewhat surprising given he has appeared for the first-team this season.

He showed up well against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last week, but he will now be hopeful of earning regular first-team minutes with Villa.

“Capturing a player of Ross’s quality is a real coup for our club and I am certain he will thrive here and improve our team,” Villa manager Dean Smith said.

Chelsea’s stance on Ruben Loftus-Cheek transfer after Barkley’s Aston Villa loan

The departure of Ross Barkley on loan has not changed Chelsea’s stance on Ruben Loftus-Cheek departing the club.

The 26-year-old struggled to earn regular game time after completing a £15million move from Everton in 2018.

He will now get the chance to play for Villa, who recorded an impressive 3-0 win against Fulham on Monday.

Barkley will not be the last player to depart Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes, with several first-team players earmarked for an exit.

One player linked with a temporary move is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The midfielder enjoyed a productive loan spell at Crystal Palace and football.london understands Barkley’s departure will not change the club’s plans for Loftus-Cheek.

Valencia plotting a shock loan move for Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater

Valencia are considering a surprise loan move for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to reports.

Drinkwater joined the Blues from Leicester City in a £35million deal, but he has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Last season saw him endure two miserable loan spells at Burnley and Aston Villa during which he played just six times.

Frank Lampard is keen to trim his squad after a busy summer at the club in terms of incomings, and Valencia are ready to offer Drinkwater an exit route according to Radio Esport Valencia, via SportWitness.
