Here are the Chelsea evening headlines on Wednesday July 22.
Madrid could help Blues in Havertz chase
Chelsea’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz could be helped out by Real Madrid offering the Bundesliga side a replacement for the talented German midfielder.
Havertz has been heavily linked with the Blues recently, with the two clubs reportedly in talks over a fee.
Goal are reporting, via the Express , that Real Madrid youngster Reinier could be offered to Leverkusen as a replacement if Havertz was to leave the club.
There are other clubs interested in the Brazilian starlet, including Real Valladolid, but the Bundesliga side are leading the race, which could prove to be a huge boost for Chelsea.
Lampard confirms guard of honour plans for Liverpool game
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed his side are “very happy” to give Premier League champions Liverpool a guard of honour ahead of their game this evening.
The Reds were confirmed as champions a few games ago now, after the Blues’ victory over Manchester City, and they will officially be crowned and awarded with the famous trophy at Anfield this evening.
Lampard told football.london : “I’m very happy to give a guard of honour to a team that deserves it but I’m not sure what the protocol will be, circumstances will dictate what happens with that.
“As for the trophy lift, we will see because it might depend on other factors after the game.”
Neville explains Chelsea transfer advantage over Liverpool
Gary Neville believes there is nothing to be worried about in regard to a long period of dominance from champions Liverpool because they do not have the spending power of Manchester City, Manchester United or Chelsea.
The Reds were officially confirmed as Premier League champions for the first time in the club’s history recently, but it’s not something Neville is too concerned about.
Neville told Sky Sports: “No, I’m not (concerned). What would concern me about Liverpool for a long period would be if they were bought out by a super-rich owner, who invested at the level of Manchester City, Manchester United.
“Liverpool still, in their transfer business, are still quite modest compared to the other clubs. Their owners just don’t have the money of a Manchester City, or the spending power of a Manchester United or a Chelsea.”
