Chelsea evening headlines as Blues get Thomas Tuchel boost, Thiago Silva sends Lampard message

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Monday, January 25.

Blues hopeful on Tuchel scenario

Chelsea are hopeful that incoming boss Thomas Tuchel will not have to quarantine upon his arrival in England, football.london understands.

Tuchel is poised to become Chelsea's new head coach following owner Roman Abramovich's decision to sack Frank Lampard less than two year's into his tenure at Stamford Bridge on Monday morning.

The 47-year-old, who was sacked by French giants Paris Saint-Germain last month, was understood to have been in Germany as of Monday lunchtime ahead of finalising a deal with the Blues to arrive in west London.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus protocols in place and the UK's policy on anyone entering the country forced to spend a period of time in self-isolation, the Blues are confident that an exemption will be made, allowing him to be in the dugout in time for this weekend's Premier League clash with Burnley.

Thiago Silva pays credit to Lampard

Centre-back Thiago Silva has thanked Lampard and his coaching staff for all of their hard work following their departures from Stamford Bridge.

After a run of five defeats in eight games in the league, Abramovich felt the time was right to call time on the former England international's time in charge.

Silva, who was one of seven new signings brought to west London by Lampard last summer, became the first player within the Chelsea squad to speak out on the head coach's departure.

Taking to Instagram, the Brazilian, formerly of AC Milan and PSG, said: "I would like to thank you for everything you and your committee have done for me since the day I arrived. As I told you, it seemed like we had been working together for ten years.

"Thank you very much for everything, legend. @franklampard #legend."

Guardiola breaks silence on Lampard sacking

Pep Guardiola - the Manchester City manager - has admitted that he would like to meet up with Lampard once coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

Following the Blues boss' departure on Monday morning, Guardiola was quizzed on what he made of Chelsea's decision during his pre-match press call, ahead of City's clash with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening.

Guardiola, as quoted by the Mirror, said: “People talk about projects and ideas, but they don’t exist - you have to win or you’ll be sacked.

“I respect the decision by Chelsea, but hopefully I can see Frank soon, take him to a restaurant to see him again when lockdown is over."
