Here are the Chelsea evening headlines for Thursday, October 1.
Chelsea’s Champions League group opponents revealed
Chelsea will take on Sevilla, Krasnodar, and Rennes in Group E of this season’s Champions League.
The most testing fixture for Frank Lampard's side will undoubtedly be the trip to Andalusia to play the Europa League holders.
However, is a group Chelsea will expect to qualify from given their investment in the squad this summer.
The journey to Russian side Krasnodar could prove a challenge, while Rennes are an unknown quantity in the Champions League.
But the Blues will be pleased to have avoided the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Juventus.
Bayern to make last-minute move for Hudson-Odoi
Bayern Munich want to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi before the close of the transfer window, according to German outlet Bild.
The 19-year-old winger has struggled to establish himself in Lampard’s first team this season but scored against West Bromwich Albion last weekend after being introduced as a second-half substitute.
That prompted the Chelsea boss to insist Hudson-Odoi still has a future at the club, though Bayern have reportedly identified him as a target as they look for a fourth winger to their squad.
Ivan Perisic returned to Inter this summer after his loan spell in Bavaria, while newly-signed Leroy Sane is injured and expected to miss around a month.
Chilwell says Chelsea have ‘recipe’ to fix defensive frailties
Ben Chilwell has backed his Chelsea find a solution to their defensive problems over the coming weeks.
The left-back is expected to make his Premier League bow for the Blues against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
And he is confident that Chelsea will improve at the back after last weekend’s 3-3 draw at West Brom.
“I think with the players we've got here and the players who have been bought in, as well as the coaching staff, it's a good recipe for things that can happen this season,” Chilwell said.
“We're working a lot on the training pitch defensively in terms of hopefully conceding less goals from set-pieces and open play. So we're working hard on that.
“And hopefully when we build that team chemistry a bit more over the next few weeks, everyone starts training more and gets back to match fitness, and everyone's together a bit more, it should start to gel nicely.”
