Lampard reveals the two players set to miss Aston Villa clash
Frank Lampard has revealed which players will miss out as the Blues return to Premier League action on Sunday.
Chelsea will make the trip to Villa Park looking to consolidate their position in the top four.
But they will be without two young players, both of whom are struggling with injuries.
“We have a couple of issues,” said Lampard in his pre-match press conference . “Fikayo Tomori has a muscle injury, probably from the stresses of trying to get fit quickly. We have had to try to go against that, but he has an injury which should keep him out for at least ten days or so.
“With Callum Hudson-Odoi he had a small injury earlier on in the training process. He is not match fit, albeit he is physically fit now.
“We have trained really well, but nothing is like the Premier League. We are going to have to use all the squad, but it's like tournament football.”
Lampard gives verdict on Werner after Chelsea confirm signing of German striker
Frank Lampard has admitted he is “excited” at the prospect of Timo Werner playing in a Chelsea shirt.
The £47.5m signing of the prolific forward from RB Leipzig was confirmed on Thursday.
Werner had been repeatedly linked with a move to Liverpool, but instead opted to join Chelsea.
Lampard has highlighted the significance of the 24-year-old’s arrival.
“I think he is clearly a player we liked. As a club we went for him, he has huge talent,” Lampard said. “We were clear we wanted to improve and he will do that, I'm excited to have him.
“I had good conversations with him personally. It seemed like an exciting project for him. We were pleased he came to us.”
Porto set €30m asking price for Chelsea target
Chelsea will need to pay €30m if they want to sign Porto right back Jesus Corona, according to a report in Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
The Mexico international previously had a release clause of €50m but insisted that it be decreased when negotiating his latest contract.
Corona’s agent, Matias Bunge, is reportedly aware of interest from several clubs, including Chelsea.
The Blues are expected to face plenty of competition for the 27-year-old if they choose to pursue a deal in the summer.
Porto, according to A Bola, will reject any bid that is “a penny less” than €30m.
