Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will serve a one-match touchline ban after he was punished by the Football Association for “misconduct” in the Blues’ game against Liverpool.
The west Londoners defeated the Premier League champions 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, with Estevao Willian netting an injury-time winner after Cody Gakpo had cancelled out Moises Caicedo’s stunning opener.
The Brazilian’s late strike sent Maresca sprinting down the touchline to join his players in celebration, and he was shown a second yellow card of the game by referee Anthony Taylor.
He had already been cautioned for berating the officials earlier in the encounter, and assistant manager Willy Caballero oversaw the dying embers of the match.
Now, the FA have confirmed in a statement that the Italian will be banned from the touchline for a single game - Chelsea’s visit to Nottingham Forest this weekend - and be made to pay an £8,000 fine after acting ”in an improper manner and/or [using] abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour during the fixture', which led to his dismissal around the 96th minute.”
The Blues sit seventh in the Premier League table, and they host Sunderland and visit Tottenham in their two games following their trip to the City Ground.
They also take on Ajax and Wolves in the Champions League and EFL Cup respectively.
