Chelsea's perfect response as Manchester United's troll attempt backfires spectacularly

Manchester United may well have wished they were playing Chelsea again, but there was no need to say it.

And after slipping to a shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace, the Red Devils were definitely left thinking it might have been better to face the Blues again.

United opened their Premier League campaign with a thumping 4-0 victory over Chelsea in what was Frank Lampard's first game in charge.

Fast forward two weeks and United were back at Old Trafford, losing 2-1 to the Eagles, having seen Marcus Rashford miss a penalty - the second spot-kick in as many weeks that has gone awry.

United made a faux pas in the build-up to the game on social media, using the hashtag MUNCHE to signify Manchester United (MUN) versus Chelsea (CHE).

They should, of course, have used the hashtag MUNCRY and they did so when rectifying their mistake on Twitter.

But in doing so they said: "Wish we were playing Chelsea again though."

That will not have gone down well at Stamford Bridge, who would prefer to forget all about that opening day of the season reverse at the hands of United.

But with Palace pulling off that shock win, the Blues' social media team could not resist getting their own back.

Lampard: 'A harsh lesson for my young team today'

Later on Saturday evening the official Chelsea account tweeted: "How'd it go?"

Over to you, United.
