Chelsea dealt transfer blow as Real Madrid make Borussia Dortmund star number one target

Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to several top clubs across Europe this summer, with Chelsea rumoured to be just one of his many potential suitors.

The Blues are desperate to add a new striker to their ranks and Haaland is the club's top target.

However, reports emerged earlier in the week that Real Madrid believe they can sign Haaland for £112m – a price tag that is much lower than what was mooted before.

Now, it seems as though Chelsea have been dealt a further blow as Los Blancos’ new boss Carlo Ancellotti is willing to sell several players, including the likes of Luka Jovic, Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane - who has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge - in order to sign one of Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.

That is according to Spanish outlet Marca, who also report that Madrid are also likely to sell their fringe players, counting ex-Arsenal loanee, Dani Ceballos, to help raise funds for potential incomings.

Having enjoyed a blistering 2020/21 campaign, scoring 41goals in as many appearances, the Norwegian is one of the hottest young talents in football right now, hence why there’s no surprise that there’s so much interest in him, especially from the likes of Real Madrid.

And in what could be the beginning of a rivalry, particularly if one misses out on a dream move to Madrid for the other, Mbappe recently shared his thoughts on Haaland’s development so far.

“It’s his second year, we’re getting to know him,” he told Esquire. It’s the start for him. I’m happy for him, for what he’s doing.”

An element of that statement sounds somewhat patronising, but it certainly indicates that the Frenchman understands how good Haaland can be, and Chelsea will ultimately have to pull out all the stops should they wish to sign him.
