Chelsea dealt transfer blow as Liverpool and Manchester United 'express interest' to agent

Chelsea have been dealt a setback in the race for West Ham United star Declan Rice.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the England international for more than a year with former head coach Frank Lampard a big fan.

But according to the latest reports, Chelsea's interest has cooled following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel last month, opening the door for others.

The report claims Liverpool and Manchester United have now expressed an interest in Rice, with the two rivals preparing to lock horns over a potential deal in a bid to strengthen their respective midfields having both fallen behind in the title race.

It's thought it will take more than £80million to pull off a deal for Rice, and that has seen him come off the list for the Blues, according to Ian McGarry of The Transfer Window Podcast.

“He is no longer on the transfer list of recruitment possibilities for the Stamford Bridge club, but he has certainly roused the interest of Liverpool and Manchester United,” said the transfer expert.

“Both of whom have expressed interest to Rice’s agent as we understand and they have asked to be kept informed of any offers made for the England international.”

That latest development could see Chelsea slip away from the Rice race, albeit from their own doing with the change of head coach seemingly meaning a change of transfer priorities.

The Blues have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland ahead of the summer, and given the Norwegian will cost more than £100million, not having to splash out on Rice could make all the difference.

Despite that, Rice does look like he could seal a move away from West Ham this summer, though, he will not exactly be in a rush with the Hammers performing brilliantly so far this season, currently in fifth and just goal difference behind Chelsea in fourth.
