Chelsea dealt summer transfer blow as leading target 'says no' to Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea have missed out on summer transfer target David Alaba.

That's according to Sky Germany, who say the Bayern Munich star has rejected an offer to make the move to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this summer.

Alaba is out of contract at Bayern and looking for a new club after 11 years, despite being offered a new deal, deciding to pursue a new challenge.

That decision saw a number of clubs come calling with the versatile defender an attractive prospect on a free transfer, still only 28 years of age, and one of those clubs is said to have been Chelsea.

But despite reportedly being favourites early on in the race, it now seems as though the Blues will miss out on a deal with Sky Germany reporting Alaba "said no" to Thomas Tuchel.

The report claims Tuchel tried to convince Alaba to make the move to Stamford Bridge but failed and that the German head coach wasn't the only boss to fail in his attempts.

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly made a 'huge offer' to sign the Austrian, but even that wasn't enough with the defender said to be fixed on securing a move to La Liga.

It's thought Real Madrid are interested an acquiring his services this summer and that they are now favourites with La Liga Alaba's preferred destination, though Barca are also being linked.

Alaba has been with Bayern since 2009 when he joined from Austria Wien as a youngster, and he has since racked up more than 300 appearances across all competitions.

During that time, he and Bayern have won nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, five German Super Cups, two Champions League titles, as many UEFA Super Cup titles and two FIFA Club World Cups.
