Chelsea dealt Kai Havertz transfer delay as Bayer Leverkusen stand firm during talks

Bayer Leverkusen insist Chelsea target Kai Havertz will not be sold before their Europa League campaign ends next month.

Frank Lampard wants to wrap up a deal for Havertz so the 21-year-old has more time to settle in west London and prepare for the start of next season in September.

But Leverkusen director Rudi Voller has said it is “set in stone” that Havertz will play in the climax of the Europa League.

Leverkusen are in the last 16 of the competition and face Rangers next Thursday holding a 3-1 lead from the first leg.

Should they progress to the quarter-finals, the Europa League is being completed with a knockout competition in Germany, with the final on August 21.

Havertz has told Leverkusen he wants to join Chelsea, who have already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for next season.

Lampard is also targeting defensive reinforcements and is expected to move to sign a top-level goalkeeper after he dropped Kepa Arrizabalaga against Wolves
