Chelsea dealt another injury blow as defender hobbles off in Europa League semi-final

Chelsea's injury problems have worsened this evening (Thursday) after Danish defender Andreas Christensen hobbled off in the Europa League semi-final with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 23-year-old went off in the second half of the Europa League second leg clash after picking up a knock, with Davide Zappacosta brought on to replace him, despite centre-back Gary Cahill being on the bench for the Blues in a substitution that surprised some fans.

It was another blow to Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea , with Antonio Rudiger ruled out for the season with a knee injury, while the Blues are also currently without influential midfielder N'Golo Kante.

This was Christensen's 32nd appearance of the season for club and country, with the young Dane often finding himself behind the first choice pairing of Rudiger and David Luiz.

These Chelsea fans are unanimous on who was to blame for Frankfurt's equaliser in semi-final

But with Rudiger out, this was a chance for Christensen to get a run of games for the Blues at the end of the season, with a Premier League game to come against Leicester City on Sunday, and a potential Europa League final to come, should Chelsea beat Eintracht Frankfurt.

The extent of his injury is not yet known, and Sarri is likely to provide an update in his post-match press conference.

Chelsea fans react in unison to first half decision in Eintracht Frankfurt clash

But Chelsea still have work to do to get through in this competition, with the semi-final tie going to extra time.
