Chelsea could suffer Erling Haaland blow as Manchester City make Reece James transfer decision

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Sunday, June 27.

Potential Haaland blow

According to the Express, Manchester United could be about to deal a blow in Chelsea's reported pursuit of Erling Haaland.

The report claims that Borussia Dortmund are reluctant to allow two of their star players to leave the German club this summer, with Jadon Sancho reportedly set to join Man United in the near future.

Haaland has been heavily linked with a big-money move to the Blues in the coming months, but that could be in doubt if Sancho - as expected - completes a deal to join United.

James a target for Man City

Chelsea defender Reece James is on Manchester City's wish list this summer, according to a report from The Athletic.

James enjoyed a fine 2020/21 season for the Blues, earning him a call-up to the England squad for their ongoing Euro 2020 campaign, but is now reportedly wanted by the Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola is said to be a huge admirer of the Chelsea right-back, with his versatility appealing to the City boss.

However, James has already declared his love for the West London club in the past.

Kovacic makes exciting Gilmour prediction

Mateo Kovacic has tipped his team-mate Billy Gilmour to become a really important player for Chelsea in the future.

Gilmour made just five appearances in the Premier League for the Blues last season, but has shown glimpses of his quality when he has played.

The 20-year-old attracted plenty of plaudits for his performance in Scotland's goalless draw with England last week, but unfortunately for him, he tested positive for Covid-19 just a few days later, which also caused Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell to go into isolation after coming into close contact with their club team-mate.

Now, Kovacic has predicted his Blues colleague to become integral for the side over the next few years.

He said: "He can become a really excellent player so it is up to him to work hard and to get better with each day. I am sure that, with his personality, he is going to do that.

"Billy's qualities cannot be brought into question. He is still a young player but he has played a lot of good matches for Chelsea and for his national team.

"He is definitely going to be an important player for Chelsea in the near future."
