Chelsea could sign their very own Gareth Bale if Marina Granovskaia completes £54m transfer

Despite the 2021 summer transfer window now being closed, Chelsea continue to be linked with new additions.

We are still months away from the January transfer window opening, but the Blues are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

According to a report from the Express, the west London club are keen on the 25-year-old and could offer one of three players - Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech - in a swap deal for the winger.

Sane's time at the Bundesliga champions has not been ideal so far, and that was epitomised last month when he was booed by his own team's supporters during their 3-2 win over Koln.

Chelsea could look to end Sane's Bayern nightmare with a January bid, with Transfermarkt valuing the former Manchester City attacker at £54million.

So, even if a player was included by Thomas Tuchel as a makeweight, Sane is likely to be expensive, especially because he has just under four years remaining on his contract with the German outfit.

Sane spent around four years with Manchester City before making the £40m switch to Bayern in the summer of 2020 - and, in that time, the German winger showcased on numerous occasions what he was capable of.

His talent earned him a comparison with former Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, when Phil Neville spoke about Sane over four years ago.

"When I see Sane play I remember Gareth Bale when he went from Southampton to Tottenham," Neville said on BBC Match of the Day 2 in March 2017.

"Early in the season you thought: 'Sane, oh he’s young a little bit weak, he's not used to English football' – Gareth Bale was like that but what I’m seeing now is something similar to Gareth Bale.

"The way he has devastating pace, the way he goes past people with that power and pace.

"Simplicity at times, he’s not someone who’ll do two, three step-overs, it’s running behind, pace, and devastating finish. He could be a sensational player."

Sane definitely has similar attributes to Bale. His frightening speed, his ability to cut in on his deadly left foot and find the far corner and his dribbling abilities.

Chelsea of course had Arjen Robben in the past, who on his day, was virtually unstoppable to stop when cutting inside from the right wing to his favoured left foot.

Tuchel will be hoping, if the rumours are indeed true, that if he does manage to sign Sane, then he can have a similar impact to Bale or Robben.
