Chelsea could face blow for Tottenham clash as Jesus Perez misconduct charge confirmed by FA

Mauricio Pochettino's assistant Jesus Perez has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA).

Perez was sent off for entering Brentford's technical area to confront one of Thomas Frank's assistants, who held onto the match ball to waste time in the 88th minute on Saturday.

The offence is deemed an automatic red card in the new Premier League rules, which aim to stamp out poor behaviour from players and coaches this season.

Perez has until Thursday to respond to the charge, meaning he will be in the dugout against Blackburn on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup but could miss the trip to Tottenham next Monday.

Chelsea's coaching staff are set for a hostile reception when they return to north London due to the fierce nature of the club's rivalry with Spurs.

Perez's absence would be a significant blow to Pochettino as he is widely regarded as his right-hand man in a tight-knit coaching team. He is known for his particular expertise in organisation, analytics and fitness, to complement the skillsets of the other coaches.

Pochettino has worked with Perez since his first job in management at Spanish club Espanyol.
