Chelsea could be the only 'solution' for Cristiano Ronaldo as 'image' Man Utd transfer explained

Chelsea could be the only "solution" for Cristiano Ronaldo right now. That's according to Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who has been giving some detailed insight into the high-profile situation.

football.london understands the Blues were recently sounded out over a possible move for Ronaldo by his agent Jorge Mendes, who met Todd Boehly last month. Mendes and Boehly discussed numerous of the former's clients, it is understood, including Ronaldo – who wants to leave Manchester United as he seeks Champions League football.

Chelsea can offer him the chance to play on Europe's biggest stage, but Thomas Tuchel still needs to give Ronaldo the green light. Ronaldo, 37, is in the final years of his career and according to Sky Sports, Man United are willing to listen to offers for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen their attack this summer in Boehly's first transfer window. Raheem Sterling is on the verge of completing a move from Manchester City to the Blues, with Raphinha also of keen interest to Tuchel and Boehly.

Ronaldo could be someone Chelsea look at this summer, but it would only be a short-term solution due to his age. Either way, for Ronaldo, Chelsea could be his only solution.

Di Marzio, when speaking to wettfreunde, believes that is the case. The Italian also spoke about how signing Ronaldo could be an attractive proposition for new co-owner Boehly, who is looking to increase the image and popularity of the club.

"He really wants to play in the Champions League. His aim is to continue with his Champions League records," Di Marzio said. "His agent is trying to find the best solution for him for next season. That's why he's talking to some clubs.

"Chelsea are entering a new era, and even if it's 'just' an image deal for the new owner and chairman, this could be a topic for the whole world to talk about. He could play in the Champions League with new 'emotions and ambitions'.

"If he wants to play in the Premier League and Champions League, Chelsea is the only club at the moment. I don't think there are other big solutions for him right now."

Ronaldo has also been linked with a move to Barcelona, despite his previous ties to Real Madrid, as well as a switch to Italy, where he has already played with Juventus from 2018 until 2021. Di Marzio, however, believes they are not realistic.

He added: "Italy is impossible for him. I don't think Cristiano could go to Barcelona. He's a Madrid player at heart. So I don't think he could join them. Barcelona want Robert Lewandowski, and they will try to sign him until the end.

"PSG won't sign him as they have [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe. It's difficult to find another club that will give him the opportunity to play in the Champions League."
