Chelsea could be set to receive £40m transfer windfall to help fund Erling Haaland chase

Chelsea are reportedly 'confident' in completing a big-money signing for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer.

The Blues enjoyed a tremendous 2020/21 season that was capped off by a glorious Champions League win in late-May, but Thomas Tuchel did see his side struggle in front of goal at times.

Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham finished the campaign as the club's top scorers - in all competitions - with 12 goals apiece, which has seemingly forced the west London club into the transfer market this summer.

Haaland is a name that refuses to go away, and according to Jan Aage Fjortoft, Chelsea are working "intensely" to sign the Dortmund forward.

"Chelsea working intense (sic) to get Erling Haaland. He is seen as the 'missing' player to make them challenge for the PL title next season," he wrote on Twitter.

"Fee very high, but confidence that this can be solved. The main obstacle could be the wage-structure at Chelsea."

Roman Abramovich, despite being one of the richest football owners in the country, will still be seeking funds in order to compete with Europe's elite in the transfer market and a large chunk of that could come via two fringe players.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is once again a target for Bayern Munich, according to the Times.

Hudson-Odoi was being chased by the German giants in 2019 before putting pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge. However, the 20-year-old featured just 23 times for the Blues in the Premier League last season.

The English winger is valued at £28.8million on Transfermarkt, with just over three years remaining on his deal in west London. Tuchel often used Hudson-Odoi in an unorthodox right wing-back position when playing the three-back formation at Chelsea, which limited his attacking capabilities.

Another player that could be on his way out of the European champions is Marcos Alonso. The Spanish left-back has fallen down the pecking order at the club following Ben Chilwell's form.

Now at the age of 30, and with just two years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, the Blues could look to sell Alonso on this summer.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Maurizio Sarri's impending arrival at Lazio would see the Serie A club make a move for Alonso. The report claims the Spaniard is the 'dream' signing for Sarri.

The Real Madrid academy graduate is valued at £10.8m on Transfermarkt, meaning the sales of Hudson-Odoi and Alonso combined could generate very close to £40m - which could prove pivotal in any big-money signings this summer.

Haaland is one name that's been linked, but Romelu Lukaku has also been involved in speculation surrounding a sensational return to the club.

Olivier Giroud has recently signed a contract extension with the London club, but Abraham has been heavily linked with a move away in the coming months.
