Frank Lampard has made one change from the team that won 2-1 away to Watford last Saturday evening, with Marcos Alonso returning at left back in place of Emerson Palmieri.
The Italy international made his first appearance in six weeks at Vicarage Road following a muscular injury and although it is not clear if he has suffered a setback or is merely being rested he is not part of the substitutes' bench for this evening's crunch Champions League Group H game at home to Ajax.
Lampard has stuck with the same midfield and forward line, however, with N'Golo Kante named on the bench along with Andreas Christensen.
Kante being held in reserve is in part because Jorginho is ruled out of Saturday's Premier League game at home to Crystal Palace because of suspension. The Italian will start as one of two holding midfielders alongside Mateo Kovacic.
Mason Mount is expected to continue in a No10 role with Willian on his right and the in-form Christian Pulisic to his left. Tammy Abraham will lead the line.
Chelsea are joint-top of Group H with the Dutch champions following last month's 1-0 win in Amsterdam. Substitute Michy Batshuayi scored the winner at the Johann Cruyff Arena and is likely to feature from the bench again this evening.
Erik ten Hag's Ajax are as expected. Former Southampton winger Dusan Tadic will lead the line and wear the captain's armband, while the ex-Manchester United defender Daley Blind will marshall their back four.
