Chelsea confirm the latest news on Callum Hudson-Odoi's injury

Chelsea have confirmed that Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to undergo surgery this evening on his ruptured Achilles tendon.

The 18-year-old had finally fought his way in the Premier League starting XI, making four league starts in a row. However, his season was ended in the 2-2 draw with Burnley last night.

It was an innocuous moment as the winger went up to collect a ball in the air and then landed on his leg, obviously in a lot of pain and being able to walk properly on it.

Hudson-Odoi then had to be helped off the pitch and then round the other side of the ground to the tunnel, clearly in disomfort.

Gianfranco Zola said after the game: "It's not an easy one. I think it's a serious injury. It's his Achilles tendon. I cannot tell you the full extent of it."

However, the player himself took to social media to confirm that he did rupture his Achilles tendon, which means that his season is over.

Chelsea's statement this evening read: "Callum is seeing a specialist this afternoon and is expected to undergo surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon this evening."

The Blues are hoping to keep hold of the winger this summer despite some interest from Bayern Munich, which included a bid in January of up to £35million.
