Chelsea confirm Malang Sarr exit to Monaco on loan transfer with view to permanent move

Chelsea have allowed Malang Sarr to leave on loan for Monaco after just one season inside Thomas Tuchel’s first-team.

The 23-year-old defender only joined the Blues in 2020 on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Nice and spent his first year at the club on loan in Porto.

Last season, Tuchel brought Sarr into his squad and he featured 21 times including in the Club World Cup final and in both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Monaco have signed the centre-back on an initial loan deal for a fee of £600,000.

The deal will be made permanent should he trigger a clause based on the number of appearances he makes in the principality, which will cost the club £10million.

Chelsea therefore could make a reasonable profit on a player who could be making way for the likes of Wesley Fofana as the Blues look to raise funds for the Leicester defender.
