Chelsea confirm major injury blows ahead of Liverpool clash

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Ben Chilwell is likely to miss the remainder of Chelsea’s season following knee surgery.

While the Chelsea boss has also revealed that Reece James is a major doubt for Sunday’s clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell underwent surgery on a knee injury earlier this week after picking up the knock during his side’s 4-0 Champions League win against Juventus in November.

While James was forced off during the first half of Wednesday’s draw with Brighton at Stamford Bridge after picking up a hamstring injury.

Tuchel has revealed that he is still awaiting the scan results before determining how long the defender could be sidelined for, but James is likely to miss Sunday’s game.

He said: “Chilly of course has had his surgery and he has our best wishes and all of our energy to come back healthy and as soon as possible. Unfortunately it seems like the season is over for him.

“With Reecey it’s a hamstring injury, a muscle injury, and as always with muscle injuries, the examination [results] comes a little bit later. You cannot rush these things.

“The images are better if you wait a little bit. So the images will come back to us later today I guess and only then will we know more about his status.

“That’s the situation on the wing-backs at this moment.”

Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and currently sit one point above Jurgen Klopp's side in the table having played a game more.
