Signed: Alyssa Thompson - (Chelsea FC)

Alyssa Thompson says she is looking forward to improving her game in an “amazing environment” after joining Chelsea on deadline day.

The United States international has joined the Blues from NWSL side Angel City in a deal worth just under £1million, plus add-ons. Thompson has signed a five-year contract.

Thompson, 20, is a versatile forward and was the marquee name Chelsea signed on a busy deadline day ahead of the start of the new Women’s Super League season.

Chelsea face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge tonight in the campaign curtain-raiser.

Thompson, who has 22 caps for the US, said: “Chelsea is such an amazing club, one of the best in the world.

“Being able to play with players that are the best in the world is an amazing opportunity at such a young age and I want to learn, grow and develop a lot. I feel like Chelsea is such an amazing environment to do that in.”

Paul Green, Chelsea’s head of women’s football, added: “We’re delighted to bring Alyssa to the club. She’s a dynamic winger with electric pace, who can play on either wing and is very good in one-on-one situations.

“Alyssa is one of the best and most exciting young players in the world, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she develops further during her time with Chelsea.”
