Chelsea are moving closer to sealing a deal for Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The Blues have been pursing the 21-year-old for several weeks, and football.london understands a breakthrough is getting close.
Havertz has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons,and his impressive displays have made him a hot prospect for the future.
Chelsea have already snapped up Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, and Frank Lampard is keen to add the forward to his squad.
The two clubs are getting closer to an agreement over a fee, with Bayer Leverkusen expected to come down slightly on their original asking price.
The Germans are looking for around the £80million mark, while Chelsea are expected to meet that mark with add-ons.
With Ziyech, Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount, Lampard is looking for depth within the squad.
The Blues boss was unhappy with his side’s clinical edge through much of the 2019/20 campaign, and had hoped to add quality in January.
However, that didn’t happen and the Blues hierarchy are keen to back Lampard this summer ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Havertz is set to be the latest big-money signing to add to the ranks, while the club are also confident in sealing a deal for left-back Ben Chilwell.
If the Blues bring in the Leicester City man, then Emerson Palmieri is the likely candidate to be sold or loaned out.
However, Chelsea are keen to get Havertz over the line in the coming days with the Blues players returning for pre-season training.
