Chelsea close to £4m deal as Thomas Tuchel issues major injury boost

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Wednesday, May 12.

Tuchel hands Chelsea injury boost

Andreas Christensen's injury is "better than we feared", according to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

Christensen was taken off in the Blues ' 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday evening, but the problem with the centre-back is not as bad as it could have been, says Tuchel.

The Chelsea manager said: “Andreas' was better than we feared. We hope he'll be back for one of the two Leicester games.

"It will be a tough one but the season isn't finished for him hopefully. We have a realistic hope that the season is not over for him."

Neville names Mendy in Team of the Season

Gary Neville has included Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in his Premier League Team of the Season.

Mendy has been a revelation since arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer, and Neville has admitted he has been proven wrong by the shot-stopper's impressive performances.

The former Rennes star was included in the ex-Manchester United defender's best XI of the season.

Neville said: “For me, Mendy, because I think Chelsea, with the goalkeeper they had [Kepa Arrizabalaga], had massive issues and they would not be where they are at.

"To be fair, since he’s come in, their fortunes, defensively, have changed, Tuchel has made them brilliant defensively and he’s a big part of that.

"The impact on Chelsea, getting to a Champions League final, finishing where they are now in the league compared to where they are.

"I don’t think Ederson has been at his absolute best this season. I think Ederson and Alisson are the best two goalkeepers in the league, let’s be clear, but his impact this season."
