Chelsea charged by FA for failing to control players during Liverpool match

Chelsea face two FA charges following angry scenes during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool last week.

The Champions League winners have been charged with two breaches of FA Rule E20.1 for failing to “ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.”

Chelsea’s players were furious when referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty to Liverpool in first-half stoppage time - and subsequently sent off Reece James for a handball on the line.

The official was invited to review the incident, which was picked up by VAR, after he had initially allowed play to go on.

Mo Salah scored from the spot - equalising Kai Havertz’ opener earlier in the game. Chelsea went on to hold on for a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

In a statement the FA said: “It is alleged that Chelsea FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 48th minute of the first half and following the half-time whistle.”

Chelsea have until Friday September 3 to respond to the charge.
