Chelsea chairman delivers strong response amid questions over Roman Abramovich's future

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck insists that Roman Abramovich is as committed as ever to the club - and that he is not looking to sell the Blues.

Abramovich has been rarely seen at Chelsea matches in recent seasons, with questions raised over his long term plans for the Blues after the British government delayed renewing his visa, with the Russian taking Israeli citizenship in May 2018.

But in an interview with the Guardian, Buck has said that the Chelsea owner is not planning to sell the club, with the chairman adding that he remains heavily involved with key decisions.

"So far as I know, absolutely not; to the contrary. I have never heard a word from Mr Abramovich: 'Let's get this ready for a sale,' or something," Buck told the Guardian.

"Because of the political situation, there are people who think they might want to buy Chelsea football club at a bargain. We do get inquiries and we really have nothing to say to these people.

"In terms of being involved, in looking at new players, talking about whether to extend players' contracts, do we buy this player, do we sell this player [Abramovich] was always intimately involved in that from day one and is just as intimately involved now.

"He talks to Marina [Granovskaia] - the board member who supervises the football operation - several times a day, every day. Marina has been doing that for seven or eight years, that hasn't let up or changed at all."

Abramovich did attend the Europa League final in Baku in May, and was pictured with the trophy after Chelsea defeated Arsenal 4-1.

Meanwhile, Buck said that Abramovich was happy with how things are going this season for Chelsea, with head coach Frank Lampard giving opportunities to several young players amid the club's transfer ban.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League after a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City yesterday (Saturday).
