Chelsea can save £154m on Erling Haaland as Man City announce Sergio Aguero transfer decision

Chelsea are likely to be in the market for a striker this summer.

The Blues have the second best defensive record in the Premier League this season, conceding just two goals since Thomas Tuchel's arrival at Stamford Bridge.

But their goalscoring record leaves a lot to be desired, with just 44 goals in 29 league games - only the eighth best in the division.

The Blues spent big on the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz in the summer transfer window, but none have really hit the ground running, with Werner having only netted once in Tuchel's reign.

Erling Haaland is thought to be the club's number one transfer priority, but they will face competition from the biggest clubs in Europe, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid rumoured to be in the running for his signature.

However, the Norwegian hitman has a staggering price tag around his neck - a whopping £154million according to reports.

Haaland has a £68million release clause at Borussia Dortmund, but that does not come into effect until the summer of 2022 and the Bundesliga outfit could be keen to cash in this summer.

Romelu Lukaku, once of Chelsea of course, has been mooted as an alternative, but he too would cost a big sum, and with the Blues splashing out more than £200million in the summer, Roman Abramovich could be keen to save money.

And he would save an awful lot of money on a previous Chelsea target and someone who has hinted at a move to west London in the past - Sergio Aguero.

The frontman, one of the Premier League's hottest marksmen, will be leaving champions-elect Manchester City this summer at the end of his current deal, as announced by the club on Monday night.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: "Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football."

Aguero hinted at a Chelsea transfer way back in 2010 before he joined City.

He said then: "Chelsea are a great club. They have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years. London would be a really amazing city to live in as well – myself and my wife could be really happy there."

And Chelsea remain interested in the Argentinian, reported to have been closely monitoring his contract situation, which, as we have found out, is now not going to be resolved and he will be a free agent this summer.
