Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told he 'can't play' midfielder Kai Havertz in Liverpool clash

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been told he "can't" select Kai Havertz to play against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

The German midfielder played as a second striker last Sunday at Arsenal, taking up positions just behind Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku in the 2-0 victory.

Havertz has experienced a mixed start to his Chelsea career since his £72million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen last summer having registered just four goals and three assists in the Premier League last term.

But the 22-year-old soon began to shine following the arrival of Tuchel in January and scored the winning goal in the Champions League final versus Manchester City in May.

Despite the quality he offers in the final third of the pitch, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that the should not be included in the team to take on the Reds at Anfield.

“They can’t play Havertz," said Wright on The Kelly & Wrighty Show.

"They (Chelsea) are not going to play like they played against Arsenal away from home because they could take liberties with Arsenal, because Arsenal’s lack of organisation, they won’t do this against Liverpool.”

Tuchel may instead opt to play Timo Werner, who was linked with a move to Liverpool prior to joining Chelsea.

The former RB Leipzig striker is not expected to lead the line for the Londoners following Lukaku's arrival, but could be deployed out wide on the left flank.

Werner saw a goal ruled out at Anfield last season, though Mason Mount's goal earned Chelsea three points back in March.
