Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reveals plan to beat 'fascinating' Leeds United coach Marcelo Bielsa

Chelsea's run under new manager Thomas Tuchel has seen the Blues win eight and draw three of the German's first 11 games in charge.

Tuchel has not yet overseen a defeat as the man in the boss' chair at Stamford Bridge, scoring 13 times and conceding just twice.

The West Londoners' form has improved dramatically since former Derby County manager Frank Lampard was sacked earlier this year, and despite early remonstrations from Chelsea supporters, Tuchel is beginning to win over his latest fanbase with results and firm performances.

Speaking to the media ahead of this Saturday's lunchtime kick-off the former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund manager revealed his admiration for the 'fascinating' Marcelo Bielsa, but stopped short of praising the Argentine too openly.

What did Bielsa learn last time out against Chelsea?

Instead, he outlined a rough plan of matching Leeds United's intensity, in order to 'out-tactic' the Whites.

"There are big teams out there with big history, strong players, strong history," Tuchel insisted.

"Bielsa is one of the most fascinating managers out there and a big personality. Like with any game, I don't put the pressure on myself. I don't need to out-tactic Marcelo Bielsa. We will focus on us: how to attack, how to defend."

Chelsea certainly know how to defend under the ex-Paris Saint-Germain coach, keeping clean sheets in nine of Tuchel's 11 games at the helm.

It is almost a month since the Blues last conceded a goal, seeing off Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Everton with wins-to-nil, as well as a 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

Leeds certainly have their work cut out in this regard, but Tuchel recognises the threat Bielsa's men pose.

"His style of play is very unique, very intense. We see it in all the data from them, this season and last season. So it will be a very intense game. There will be a lot of intense runs from Leeds, their midfield is flexible, and they are very attacking.

"They try to win every game – they have only had two draws – so they are brave and have courage. They trust their physicality so we have to match it."

Tuchel knows the capabilities Leeds have, but equally those of his own players.

In the 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, Chelsea recorded more sprints than Leeds United - the only instance this has happened in the Premier League this year.

It means Chelsea have the ability to raise their level to Leeds United's, which would certainly level the playing field in the physical stakes.
