Thomas Tuchel has blamed the Stamford Bridge floodlights for Manchester United’s goal against Chelsea.
Jorginho was guilty of a horror moment five minutes into the second half as the Premier League leaders were held to a 1-1 draw.
Jadon Sancho fired United ahead after he Ballon D’Or candidate mis-controlled a long clearance from Bruno Fernandes.
Sancho seized on the loose ball, raced clear and slipped his shot past Edouard Mendy.
But Tuchel refused to blame the Italy international, saying: “He misjudged the situation and I think he was heavily disturbed from the lights. It happens.”
Jorginho showed commendable courage to salvage a point for Chelsea, when equalising from the penalty spot later on.
He had been guilty of missing a crucial spot kick for his country earlier this month – and Tuchel said: “It takes a lot of courage and personality to not be affected during the match and to have the courage to take the penalty. I am very happy that he did it.”
Tuchel was adamant Chelsea deserved all three points after dominating against United.
He added: “I am absolutely happy with what the players put in. We created chances, had deliveries, had a huge amount of shots. Can we take them better? Yes.
“We had so many high ball recoveries, so can we maybe create more chances from this superiority and ball wins? Yes, maybe. But listen, we put in the effort and the spectators feel that.
“So the energy is right, the quality is right, and the result is the result. Today it wasn’t in our favour. It should’ve been but we have to accept.”
