Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says he has moved on from Burnley row

Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri insists he has moved on from his row with Burnley and accepts it was right for the Football Association to fine him.

Sarri was sent off late on in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw on Monday by referee Kevin Friend, before a melee between members of both dug-outs took place.

After the final whistle it emerged that Sarri had complained about being allegedly called a ‘s*** Italian’ by members of Burnley’s backroom staff.

The FA investigated all the incidents, but only Sarri was punished – with the Chelsea coach getting an £8000 fine for the red card. Both clubs issued a statement on Thursday night saying ‘issues had been resolved between the coaches and clubs’.

Sarri has no complaints and said: “The fine was because I was out of my technical box, and it was true. And so I have to pay, I think. Because it was true.

“I went there, in my opinion, for a good reason. But I was out, so I have to pay of course.”

When asked about what was said to him by Burnley, he replied: “Oh, I... in my career, I made a lot of mistakes on the pitch, so I can understand very well that, sometimes under pressure, you can say something without thinking.

“I think that it was a strong discussion, I think. But, in my opinion, it has to remain on the pitch.”
