Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri provides hint on Gonzalo Higuain's future at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has backed Gonzalo Higuain to earn a permanent move for Stamford Bridge next season.

Higuain moved to Chelsea during the January transfer window on loan from Juventus, having spent the first half of the campaign with AC Milan, but has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.

With just two matches in the league remaining for Higuain and Chelsea, the 31-year-old has a return of four goals in 12 appearances but has only managed to find the net against sides at the bottom half of the table.

Higuain opened his account for the Blues with a brace against Huddersfield Town but it was another month before he netted against Fulham - and it then took over six weeks for him to find the back of the net against Burnley.

However, despite the concerns regarding his return in English football, Sarri believes Higuain has the capability to prove his worth.

Eden Hazard may have provided update on Chelsea future with cheeky gesture

"For a striker it is difficult to get used to the Premier League, for every striker, I remember Suarez at Liverpool in first season only scores three goals, then 16, then 24, but it's difficult to adapt to this Premier League. I think in the next season he will be able to score a lot,” he said after the game.

Sarri was then asked to clarify whether the Argentina international would be in west London next season and the comment from the former Napoli boss suggests a permanent move for the Juventus man could be approved.

"I don't know, I'm not in charge of the market so I cannot answer these questions. In theory, yes."
