Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been identified as a potential successor to Gennaro Gattuso at AC Milan.
Gattuso’s job as coach is under threat following the club’s defeat to Lazio in the Italian Cup semi-final in midweek. AC Milan’s poor form has also put their hopes of a top four finish and a Champions League spot in jeopardy.
Sarri’s future at Chelsea is severely at risk too and he could return to Serie A just a year after leaving Napoli.
Roma were keen on his signature but have prioritised Antonio Conte instead. AC Milan also like the former Chelsea boss but have added Sarri’s name to their wish-list should Gattuso depart.
But speaking ahead of Sunday's top-four showdown with Manchester United, Sarri insisted that he hoped to remain at Chelsea when quizzed on his future.
"The Premier League is wonderful and I want to remain in the Premier League," said Sarri. "I want to remain at Chelsea, because the level is very, very high.
"The atmosphere in the stadiums is really fantastic. And so it's a wonderful championship. I'd like to remain here.
"I am sure that, in two seasons, we will be able to close to them (Liverpool and Manchester City).
