Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri explains why Ruben Loftus-Cheek was substituted in Frankfurt clash

Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek was substituted during Chelsea's Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt as a result of cramp.

The England international, who opened the scoring in the Europa League semi-final tie, was substituted in the second half, with Ross Barkley coming on in his place at Stamford Bridge.

The substitution was met with a chorus of boos from sections of the Stamford Bridge faithful, with plenty of Chelsea fans critical of Maurizio Sarri and not for the first time this season.

But the Italian manager moved to explain his substitution when he spoke to BT Sport in his post-match interview, as he lifted the lid on why Loftus-Cheek came off.

"We lost [Andreas] Christensen and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek. We started with three injuries and had two injuries in the game.
