Chelsea boss Frank Lampard's update on Olivier Giroud's future amid Newcastle United loan link

Frank Lampard has stated he will not stand in Olivier Giroud’s way if he wants to join Newcastle United on loan - but only if it fits in with Chelsea’s plans.

With their transfer embargo now lifted, the Blues are chasing Lyon’s Moussa Dembélé, but have not made a breakthrough so far.

With Newcastle desperate for extra firepower, Steve Bruce has admitted that United have had some “knock backs” on targets so far.

When asked about former Arsenal man Giroud’s situation, Lampard - speaking after Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest - said of the 33-year-old Frenchman: "There is no update in Oli. I have spoken with him.

“If it’s something he wants to do, it’s good for me and the club then we’ll see.

“But it has to be all three."

When asked about transfers following the FA Cup draw with Rochdale on Saturday, Magpies' boss Bruce said: “Yes (we’re looking for a striker).

“We’ve had a couple of knock backs already.

“We’ll keep working away.
