Chelsea boss Frank Lampard rules out Dries Mertens transfer: I'm 95 per cent sure we're done

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has ruled out a late deal to sign Dries Mertens this month.

The Blues were exploring the possibility of a move for the Napoli man, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

But Lampard has now confirmed they are no longer pursuing a deal for the 32-year-old.

Asked about any incomings, Lampard said: “No ins means no outs.”

That means Olivier Giroud is set to remain at Stamford Bridge despite interest from a number of clubs, including Tottenham, Lazio and Inter Milan.

Spurs had held talk with Spurs in recent days to agree the outline of a deal so they could move fast if Chelsea signed a replacement.

But Lampard has failed to bring in any new faces this month, so Giroud will not get his move.

Lampard added: “We all know there has been interest, I’ve sat here at every press conference and said ‘If it’s right for Olivier, for myself and the club’ and he’s been impeccable in that period.

“I’ve got huge respect for him as a player. The answer again is no, as in will he leave? No.”

The Chelsea boss added he was "95 per cent" sure their transfer dealings are complete for the current window.
