Chelsea boss Frank Lampard explains Billy Gilmour and Kepa Arrizabalaga decisions vs Liverpool

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has explained his team selections for the FA Cup fifth round tie at home to Liverpool.

Billy Gilmour has been handed just his third start for the club and Lampard has explained why the decision was such a 'comfortable' one.

The 18-year-old featured against Grimsby Town and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup but tonight's clash at Stamford Bridge is his biggest test so far.

"Billy is playing because he deserves to play because of how he's trained and played. It's a comfortable choice," Lampard told the BBC pre-game.

"It's a big game for Billy and it's a big test. He has character and personality. I believe he can handle it with his quality. I'm very happy with Billy."

Another big call for Lampard was the decision to start Kepa Arrizabalaga over Willy Caballero, with Lampard sending a message to the enigmatic Spaniard.

"I don't want to make it political. It's just a choice with the goalkeeper. We have two good goalkeepers and it's competitive.

"He has an opportunity tonight to play at his best. I always go on training and performance.

"I've no doubts because of the keeper he is."
