Chelsea boss Frank Lampard defends Man United manager Solskjaer after Marcus Rashford injury blow

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has rubbished suggestions that Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was overplayed in recent weeks and defended Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United's top scorer aggravated his back issue during the FA Cup win against Wolves last week. Rashford managed just 15 minutes after entering the game as a substitute and missed the defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.

Solskjaer confirmed the England international could miss up to two months of action after suffering a stress fracture in his back.

"Normally six weeks to heal, but I'm not a doctor," said Solskjaer.

"It's a [back] stress fracture. It happened against Wolves. It's not happened before, it happened there and then. He'll be out for a while."

Solskjaer has been criticised by some for his handling of the situation with a key player now sidelined for a crucial section of the season.

Lampard believes that the United boss shouldn't be blamed for Rashford's troubles.

"You can’t criticise a manager for making a decision like that," the former England midfielder said.

"Marcus Rashford has been in incredible form this season, scored nearly 20 goals, 19 goals, a huge factor in their team and hindsight is the most beautiful thing.

"If you’ve got a player there that wants to play and has issues – I have that, every week there’s probably somebody in your team that’s like that – you have to make decisions.

"And I’ve heard managers get slated when they turn away from the FA Cup and play a second string team.

"And now I hear managers getting slated for bringing on what could be one of their most important and best players to try and win a game in the FA Cup. You can’t have it all ways."

United will be without Rashford for the fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 17.
