Chelsea boss Frank Lampard calls Kai Havertz a 'top player' but says 'no bids have gone in'

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has described Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz as a 'top player' but says the club have not submitted an offer for the Germany star.

The Blues have already struck a deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig this summer, with Hakim Ziyech also set to arrive from Ajax.

Reports have claimed 21-year-old Havertz is next on the club's list.

Asked if Chelsea have made contact with Leverkusen, Lampard told a virtual press conference on Wednesday: "No, no bids have gone in.

"He's obviously a top player, but I'm certainly not going to comment on other players at other teams.

"And it cannot be our focus. So, nothing to say."

Chelsea welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening after restarting their Premier League campaign with a win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Londoners currently sit on fourth place with a five point advantage over fifth place Manchester United.
