Chelsea: Borussia Dortmund near double deal for Blues stars as summer clear-out continues

Chelsea’s list of summer outgoings is set to continue growing as Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino both close in on moves to Borussia Dortmund.

Chukwuemeka is set to rejoin the Bundesliga outfit permanently after spending six months on loan there last season, while Anselmino is set for a simple loan move with no option to buy.

Both players have been given permission to travel for their medicals, which are pencilled in for Monday.

Chukwuemeka will be sold for around £24million, and Chelsea have inserted a significant sell-on clause in his deal. The move takes Chelsea’s total summer income to £273.4million, more than any other Premier League side.

Anselmino, on the other hand, is thought to be part of Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans despite only making one first-team appearance since signing from Boca Juniors in 2024, and it is hoped that the loan will allow him to build experience and develop as he provides cover for the injured Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Sule, and Emre Can.

A greater challenge may be for him to stay fit, though, as he has been struck down with a series of hamstring injuries in recent years.

Chukwuemeka’s on-pitch involvement has been similarly limited since he moved from Aston Villa to west London in 2022, tallying just 32 appearances. He too struggled with injury throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, and was sidelined for five months by a knee issue after scoring his first senior goal in 2023.

He returned to the Chelsea fold last season, featuring regularly in the Conference League before being sent to Dortmund on loan in January.

There are still more sales to be completed as Chelsea look to balance the books and appease UEFA accountants before the window closes on September 1.

Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Axel Dsasi are among those still in the shop window.
